His emotional blend of soul, folk, and rock capture both the power of piano-driven hits of Billy Joel and Gavin DeGraw, and nuances of intimate melodies of James Taylor, Otis Redding, and Amos Lee.
Born and raised in Charlotte, NC, James’ life changed when he was introduced to the piano at an early age by his father, Anthony. He began writing songs 9 years old, visiting studios and recording original music. He later toured the east coast with the contemporary Christian rock band Half the Class as keyboard player and background vocalist, winning “Battle of the Bands” events, and receiving radio play for hit single “Know You”. During this time, James frequently played shows in many other venues around Charlotte, including Bojangles Coliseum, and The Evening Muse in the NoDa neighborhood in Charlotte, winning “Badass of the week” on a few occasions.
In 2014, James moved to Nashville, TN, has played at iconic venues like The Bluebird Cafe, Douglas Corner Cafe, and Commodore Grille, and plans to release his debut EP soon. Check back often for updates!
